FAQs Liqids & Gels
Liquids & Gels
- 1.Why are thes rules necessary?
This rules for handluggage were established after arresting the Terrorism Suspects in the United Kingdom, in August 2006. There is a suspicion that these people would like to use liquid explosives for a terroristic attack. To minimize that chance, there is a strict surveillance and liquids can only be carried in small contents and in a special package.
- 2.Why liquids?
Much investigation has found place into liquid explosives. It seems a big amount of it is needed to cause an explosion. Therefore passengers are not permitted to take a big amount of liquids in their handluggage. Liquid en gels that are bought at the Airport or brought from home to the Airport will be strictly checked and can only be carried in small amounts in the handluggage.
- 3.What can I expect from the surveillance on the Airport?
All handluggage is put on an assembly-belt during the surveillance, to be checked by the Airport employees, using a scanner. This is also the place where will be checked if someone brought liquids in the handluggage. If you want to take liquids with you in your handluggage, make sure that you pack this according to the most recent regulations before departure.
If you carry liquids and gels not properly packed in your handluggage, it can be taken from you by the security officestaff. Before the surveillancepoints there are special prepared spots where you can get a plastic bag to pack your liquids and gels properly.
With the handluggage surveillance all liquids must be offered separately. The transparant plastic bag must be big enough for the liquids and gels to fit in it. Also jackets, suits and big electronics, like notebooks are to be offered separately.

Yes, after the check in procedure (passport and ticketsurveillance), you can still buy your (taxfree) purchases on an EU Airport and/or on borad of an airplane of an European Airlinecompany. When necessary the liquids and gels, which you purchase after the check in procedure or in the airplane, will be packed properly and sealed by the shop's staff or the airplane crew. The seal is valid for one day. If you have to switch plains during your trip, the seal may not be severed untill you reached your final destination.
- 6.Purchases on non-European Airports and/or on board from planes of non-European Airline companies?
If you purchase liquids and gels tax free on a non-European Airport and you switch planes on an European Airport you
