Artistic atmosphere at Acuarela Garden Café
The artistic works of Rafí Vásquez, one of the most famous living artists of the Dominican Republic, hang on the wall of the Acuarela Garden Café in Puerto Plata. This is no accident, because the building accommodating the restaurant used to be his home. Seafood, including lobster, shrimps and smoked salmon, are the specialties here. But the menu also lists many international dishes such as leg of lamb from New Zeeland, basil chicken from Thailand, and steak with French Roquefort cheese.

And that’s exactly what you can expect at Hemingway’s Café, one of the most popular places to eat in Puerto Plata. The richly varied menu is full of delicious international dishes. Be sure to hang around a little longer after dessert - until around 9:00 pm when the café starts heating up with karaoke, live music and dancing.

Nice and casual at Schnitzel Paradise
At the Schnitzel Paradise in Sosúa, you don’t necessarily have to order a schnitzel. You can pick from many different meat dishes. Hard to choose? Then sample several on a single plate. The pub atmosphere accentuates the restaurant’s nice casual feeling.

Le Papillon: not French
This is what you’d get if you crossed a German restaurant with a Dominican Republic restaurant: a great place to eat with a unique atmosphere. It has a large bar, of course, but if you’re looking for a meal, take a seat at one of the tables. Lots of meat dishes prepared with local herbs and spices. So the international approach continues right on into the kitchen. Why the French name? Who knows!

Tips
- It would be better not to drink any water from the tap in the Dominican Republic. Instead, drink bottled mineral water and also use it for brushing your teeth.
- We recommend peeling fruit before eating it. The same advice goes for tomatoes and other raw vegetables.
