A paradise with an imposing history

Cancún lies in the extreme southeast of Mexico, on the Yucatán peninsula. This breathtaking peninsula lies between the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea and, with its ultrawhite beaches and clear-blue sea, seems to come straight out of a vacation brochure. Here you will also find the most impressive archeological relics in the world: the ancient Maya cities, more than a thousand years old!

From fishing village to recreation center

Cancún, or "pot of gold" in the Maya language, was originally a fishing village, but has now developed into a lively seaside resort with several centers. Fortunately, the laid-back Mexican atmosphere has been preserved completely. This is due to, among other things, the fact that the hotels are situated outside of Cancún, in the so-called "hotel zone" on Isla Cancún, a 25-kilometer-long strip of land surrounded by water. Here you will find every possible amenity and place to go out, which, combined with the blinding white Caribbean beaches, make Cancún into an unforgettable vacation destination.

Colorful culture

Mexico has long been a Catholic country and is rich in traditions. The country is also known for its many festivities: there are more than 120 fiestas and festivals annually! Most of them last several days and are celebrated with music, dance, fireworks, and processions. One of the most important fiestas is Carnival at the end of February or beginning of March. Another important fiesta in Mexico is celebrated on November 2: Dia de los Muertos (All Souls’ Day). The Mexicans believe that on this day the souls of the dead return to the earth. It is one of the country’s most traditional fiestas, in which families make altars in their homes and visit cemeteries together.
