Martinair
Are you traveling with a wheelchair? Or do you need extra oxygen during the trip? No problem. We offer a variety of facilities and services to make our flights as pleasant and comfortable as possible for passengers with limited mobility. We would therefore like to provide you on this page with information on the following topics:
  • Requesting medical facilities
  • Traveling with a wheelchair
  • Passengers with an auditory or visual limitation

Requesting medical facilities

We are able to deliver the following medical facilities on board our flights for a fee.

  • Oxygen
Martinair can provide extra oxygen during the flight for passengers with a medical certificate. This service operates separately from the oxygen facility that is used in case of an emergency. The cost is € 90 per 400-liter bottle. Three bottles maximum are allowed per flight. We therefore recommend that you submit your request on time via our Customer Contact Center.

Note:
Bringing one's own oxygen equipment on board is not permitted.

  • Medical outlet (for using medical equipment on board)
If you want to use medical equipment during your flight, Martinair can provide mains voltage at 110/220 volts. This costs €125 per one-way trip. Since we cannot guarantee continuous provision of electricity, we do recommend that you bring sufficient dry cell batteries. You can request the medical outlet up to no later than 3 working days before departure via our Customer Contact Center.

Note:
Keep in mind that a medical outlet is not present on every type of airplane.
In particular if the flight is on the ground, oscillations in the voltage may occur.

  • Bringing along medical equipment
If the measurements and weight fall within the current carry-on luggage regulations (l 50+w 40+h 25 cm; max. 10 kilo), medical equipment may potentially be taken as carry-on luggage. Due to safety considerations, you must always inform Martinair of your intention to bring medical equipment, even if you are not planning to use it on the airplane. If the equipment is too large or too heavy according to the current carry-on luggage regulations, it shall be determined ahead of time whether transportation in the cabin is indeed possible. Martinair can in such a case require you to purchase an extra seat.

Tips:

  • Always make sure you pack your medicines in your carry-on luggage.
  • Bring the prescription of your medicines in English as well. This means any questions from customs or security officials can be answered more easily.
  • Hypodermic needles must be given to the cabin staff during the flight. In order to avoid confusion, we recommend that you put them in a small, labeled bag or box.
  • Medicines that must be kept cool are best transported in cool pouches or vacuum flasks that fall within the current carry-on luggage regulations (l 50+w 40+h 25 cm; max. 10 kg).

Traveling with a wheelchair

You can take your own wheelchair, rollator, or scooter without charge on your flight with Martinair. A luggage surcharge applies for any extra wheelchair or other aid. In order to be able to transport the wheelchair safely, all loose parts, such as the seat cushion and the footrests, must be taken along as carry-on luggage according to the current carry-on luggage regulations (l 50+w 40+h 25 cm, max. 10 kg). If that is not possible, the loose parts may be taped to the wheelchair.

Your own wheelchair is taken at check-in. You will subsequently be brought to the gate by our ground crew or by a travel companion with a Martinair wheelchair. In the airplane, some chairs are furnished with folding armrests, so you can easily make it from the wheelchair to the airplane seat and vice-versa. Upon arrival, you will be brought to the luggage conveyer belt for your flight, where your own wheelchair will be returned to you.

Please state upon booking your trip that you want to take a wheelchair, as well as whether the wheelchair is folding and what its measurements are. This can be done via your travel agent or directly with Martinair by calling +31(0)20-6011767 (available on work days from 8:30 am-7:00 pm and on Saturdays from 9:00 am-3:30 pm, Netherlands time).

Passengers with an auditory or visual limitation

The following information is of relevance to our passengers with auditory or visual limitations:

  • On the airplane, the flight-safety card and video are designed for clarity.
  • Animal aides may travel with the owner in the cabin on Martinair flights. It is a condition that your animal aide remains on the leash during the flight and that the animal does not occupy a seat or block the aisle/emergency exit.
  • Flight and boarding information is offered at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol at nearly every location via bright screens and via the airport intercom. You can of course always turn to our ground crew, who will gladly accompany you to and from the gate.

Important information:

  • For requesting special facilities on board Martinair flights, the travel agency or Martinair are your first point of contact. If you need medical facilities, we urgently request that you pass this on directly to Martinair upon booking your flight.
  • Martinair has highly qualified cabin staff to guarantee our passengers a flight which is as safe and comfortable as possible. Our cabin staff are not authorized, however, to assist you with eating or your personal hygiene. The same applies to lifting or carrying passengers, administering medicines or injections, and operating electrical (medical) equipment. If you need such care, you must bring a person who can help you on the trip. For such a person, the normal flight fare applies. Martinair cannot offer you that personal accompaniment.
  • It is important that you contact your travel agent or Martinair if you:
    • have auditory or visual limitations and therefore need accompaniment
    • cannot climb stairs or cannot walk at all
    • are not able to walk the distance between the check-in counter and the gate, or from the gate to the arrivals hall
    • want to take your own wheelchair, rollator, or scooter
    • are traveling with an animal aide that is trained to help you, for example a seeing-eye dog or a social service dog

We will then gladly inform you of all information of relevance to you.
