Scarborough, the easygoing capital of Tobago
If you’re looking for something more to do, a visit to Scarborough, Tobago’s capital city, comes very highly recommended. Don’t worry about being trampled by hordes of tourists – Scarborough is an easygoing town that feels as cozy as a village, where you can take a leisurely stroll through the streets and enjoy the shops with their original trinkets. You’ll feel right at home in the charming guesthouses and local restaurants.
Island-hopping to Trinidad
If you’re in Tobago, the crossing to Trinidad is quick and easy. Every day but Saturday, a boat sails from Scarborough to Port-of-Spain, the capital of Trinidad. The trip takes about 2.5 hours. Too long for your taste? Take a domestic flight and you’ll cut your trip down to 20 minutes! The differences between the islands make comparative exploration especially fun. Where Tobago is first and foremost a peaceful vacation paradise, Trinidad feels much livelier. The island’s business center in Port-of-Spain in particular resembles a Western city, bustling with activity. But Trinidad can also offer peace and quiet. If you have the time to visit the hills to the north of Port-of-Spain, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the unspoiled nature with its mangrove swamps and rainforest. And of course the lovely beaches!
